Humans can detect five different flavors—sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and savory. About a quarter of the population can’t taste the bitter, whereas another quarter are hyper-sensitive to even the smallest quantities of this flavor.
Everyone else falls somewhere in the middle of the two extremes. But the ones that are more adept at detecting bitter have something on the rest of us—better immune defenses.
Sooo maybe this explain’s Rob and his aversion to Bitter IPAs and Dark Stouts? But if he is one of these so called “Super Tasters” then he won’t get sick this winter… right?
Hmmmm we’ll see.
