#12beers of Beercember Troegs Mad Elf Review
It’s Christmas Eve, normally a happy time of year, but this year with a minor note of sadness, as this is the last day of the very fun Nathaniel Square Corner Store #12beers of Beercember event.
The final beer is the beer I have been most looking forward too from day one. A new beer for me, this is Troegs Mad Elf. A Belgian style strong dark ale seasoned with honey and cherries. The Mad Elf clocks in at a big 11% ABV
This beer pours a beautiful translucent red, it has no head to speak of. The beer smells of cherries and sweet Belgian yeast.
The taste is excellent. You can taste the Belgian yeast as a backdrop to the main event here, the honey and cherries. This is what I’ve been looking for for a Holiday beer. Take a regular hearty winter brew like a Belgian Quad and fortify it with fruit and spices. That’s exactly what happened here. Mad Elf is a superb Christmas brew.
I’m not going to wax on poetically here, because I have too much to do tonight, so lets just get right to it. This is a solid 5/5, would I want to drink it year round? No, heck no, but if you are looking for a nice brew to help fill you with holiday spirit, then look no further.
In the next day or so I will put together a summery post with all the brews and all the rating again, but this has been a great event. A lot of fun, thank you to @NathanielSquare Corner Store for putting this together. Merry Christmas to all the participants, even if you just participated in the reading of these reviews.
Merry Beercember from Keith (Wolfman-K)
