#12beers of Beercember Great Lakes Nosferatu Review

Day 10 brings us to one of the brew I have been looking forward too since the beginning of the Nathaniel Square #12beers event. Great Lakes Nosferatu. Because nothing says the holidays like blood sucking undead. ;-)

Nosferatu is listed by Beer Advocate as an American Strong Ale with a respectable 8% ABV.

It pours a dark bronze color, with a thin head that manages to stick around. The smell is immediate in your face hops, almost nothing else gets through.

The taste sweet upfront but that sweetness has to run for cover immediately as the hops take over. This is by far the most bitter and hoppy darker brew I have ever had. The finish mellows out tad but leaves a citrus, almost lemon peel after taste.

It tastes of bitter American Pale Ale that has been pumped up, clap hanz and franz style. But some how it all comes together for me, which is boggling even me. I don’t normal go for the APA or the IPA style because I;m not a fan of the over hopped style. I don’t mind bitters per say but many especially American Pale Ales are just too much for me. But here with the bigger ABV and the richer amber base I think it works.

A surprising 4/5 from me for this very drinkable Strong Ale from Great Lakes. I can’t quite give it a 5 because of the bitter lemon after taste that lingers on, but otherwise a great beer.

Only two more to go gang, Merry Beercember!
