#12beers of Beercember Flying Dog’s In-Heat Wheat review

Day five of the Nathanial Square Corner Store #12Beers event is here and instead of five “golden rings” we have a “golden brew.” A nice departure from the dark side that we have been living in thus far as we are drinking Flying Dog’s In-Heat Wheat.

The In-Heat Wheat which has to be one of the best/worst names for a beer ever is a Hefeweizen style brew, which if I had to pick only one type of beer to ever drink (and what a curse that would be) it would be Wheat beer. Smooth and satisfyingly light in the summer but with enough substance to satisfy though a cold winter as well. Yes I love my wheat beer.

The Fying Dog pours a surprisingly clear (for a wheat) gold color with less than a finger of head, which quickly retreats to the rim of the glass. It smells of malt and wheat, with just a touch of citrus scent.

The taste is big citrus up front with a finish of banana and tropical fruits that remind me of some of the tropical flavors you can pick up in a wild yeast based Belgian brew. I also taste some spices, mostly clove, and just a hint of bubble gum at the end, although my wife @trillian1117 thinks I am crazy when I suggested the bubblegum, so take that for what it’s worth.

The carbonation and weight of this beer in the mouth are near perfect.

I think the banana and clove spice flavors seem to make this beer a particularly good fit in the holiday season. I’m not sure what I would think of this in the summer time, but I am really enjoying it now.

This pulls a solid 4/5 on the mystical happy time magic hour podcast algorithm, I like this brew a lot and it’s a refreshing and somewhat sweet change from the darker beers we have had and are likely to come this #beercember.

Merry Beeermas everyone. What did you think of tonight’s selection?
