Keith’s Shandy Recipe
A while back we did a show featuring Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy. (htmh #15)
Although I did not really care for the Leinenkugel version, i quickly became obsessed with the concept of mixing beer and lemonade for a light summer drink option.
I have been trying out different beers to mix with my lemonade and I have come up with I think is the best pairing of beer and lemonade and I wanted to take a moment to pass it on to you guys, while we wait for the late show posting this week.
So here it is:
Keith’s Shandy Recipe:
1 part: Blue Moon Honey Moon Summer Ale
1 part: Lemonade
That’s it. Simple. Now some notes. I have been using the Wegman’s (Store Brand) Lemonade that comes in a carton ready to drink. You could use any lemonade of this sort or probably a frozen concentrate version but I would stay away from a powdered mix.
Although almost any light (color not calories) lager seems to work well the Honey Moons addition of Honey and Orange peel seem to blend really well with the lemonade making a very smooth beverage.
Now depending on how close you equal out the “parts” when mixing this should be a little less than 3% ABV, so it’s nice and light but don’t forget it’s still has a pinch of alcohol in it.
For goodness sakes never drink and drive, even with a shandy. It’s just not worth it.
